AIMS-RN is grateful to Eamonn Haughton, of CSC Ireland. Eamonn ran the virtual Dublin City marathon in 2020, raising €2,000 for MS Research. The funding was matched by NUIG’s Foundation Office, enabling the first AIMS-RN summer scholarship scheme to be launched.

Chemical Systems Control has sponsored the AIMS RN Summer Studentship for 2021.

Our AIMS RN studentship will provide talented undergraduate students with the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in multiple sclerosis research during the summer. The aim of the award is to encourage promising undergraduates to consider a research career focused on discoveries that can ultimately halt disease.

Career stage: Undergraduate level (must be enrolled in a programme).

Host organisations: Laboratories that will host the scholarships in the summer of 2021 must be members of AIMS-RN. It is a requirement that the successful applicant will spend time in at least two different research sites.

Level of funding: Salary at the real Living Wage.

Duration of funding: 6-8 weeks.


• Strong interest in MS research.
• Must be studying for an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (science, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, engineering or similar).
• Must have completed at least two years study.
• Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate course in either the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Successful students are required to write a short report at the end of their placement that will be published on the AIMS-RN website and students will present a scientific poster on their work at the annual AIMS-RN MS Symposium.
